Picture ID Scam

Campground members are being contacted by telephone and instructed to report to their campground to get a ‘required’ new picture identification card.

Upon presenting themselves at the campground folks are subjected to an intensive and high-pressure sales pitch to UPGRADE their existing membership for an additional and substantial fee. Many pie-in-the-sky benefits are offered as incentives and sometimes, severe penalties are threatened for non-compliance.

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED!

This is a desperate grab for cash. Report it immediately to NAM and more importantly, to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and to your Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection. The more complaints they get - the quicker and more decisive their action against this abusive tactic.

you are in charge - it's your phone!

Don't wait for them to finish talking. Interrupt them - talk over them if necessary and say:

"Send me something in writing and I'll look at it." - then immediately hang up.

They're trying to bully you like a mean little kid in a school playground.
If you DO get something from them in writing you will have evidence that can be used against them.

This scheme has been reported in Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio and Florida - so far.

Iowa has a lawsuit pending. Other states are investigating the complaints with an eye toward ending this abusive and deceptive sales tactic.
